Introduction
The Department of Semiconductor and Electro-Optical
Engineering originated from the " Electro-Optical
Semiconductor Group" of the Department of Electrical Engineering of our
school. The Electro-Optical Semiconductor Group was established in 1998,
and a semiconductor laboratory was established at the same time. It was the
first vocational colleges to be established domestic technical in Taiwan.
In response to the development of the high-tech
optoelectronics industry in Tainan Science Park, the laboratory has been
further upgraded to a "semiconductor center. Using existing instruments
and equipment and gradually expanding advanced process systems, it can perform
research in conjunction with the industry, allowing for a close integration of
industry and academia. , to achieve the integration of academic theory and
application.
In order to expand and cultivate talents in
optoelectronic semiconductors and provide sufficient human resources for the
industry, our department has 15 full-time faculty members, including 7
professors, 5 associate professors, and 3 assistant professors, all of whom
hold PhD degrees. All faculty members guide students to research practical
topics related to the industry and let students to connect with the
semiconductor and optoelectronics industries early.
A brief overview of the
development history of our department is as follows:
In 1998, the Electro-Optical
Semiconductor Group was established.
In 2002, the College of
Engineering was established.
In 2004, the Department
of Electro-Optical Engineering was established.
In 2005, the “Department
of Electro-Optical Engineering” was established to enroll four-year
undergraduate students, and the “Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical
Engineering” was also established.
In 2008, the
undergraduate and graduate programs were accredited by IEET.
In 2012, the
undergraduate and graduate programs passed the second cycle of IEET
accreditation.
In 2019, the
undergraduate and graduate programs passed the third cycle of IEET
accreditation.
In 2021, the
undergraduate and graduate programs passed the fourth cycle of IEET
accreditation.
On August 1, 2023,
the department was renamed to the “Department of Semiconductor and Electro-Optical
Engineering.”
